Victorian Donor Conception Register Services (Department of Health)
Victoria’s assisted reproductive treatment services historically included donor-linking and support such as:
- Assisting people to apply for Central and Voluntary Register information.
- Donor-linking services including letters or facilitated meetings.
- Educational resources and personal stories to support identity and emotional needs.
⚠️ Reforms are underway; some donor-linking services may be changing as ART regulation transitions into the Department of Health.

Donor Conception Register Support (Relationships Australia SA) offer a free counselling and guidance service linked to the Donor Conception Register (DCR):
- Confidential counselling for donor-conceived people, donors, and parents impacted by historic anonymity laws.
- Help interpreting donor information obtained from the DCR.
- Support in connecting and talking with donors or siblings if appropriate.
- Assistance for parents navigating conversations with their children.
This is one of the few state government–linked free support services in Australia.
Western Australia (WA)
WA Donor Conception Information Service (DCIS)
A WA Government service supporting donor-conceived persons, parents and donors.
What DCIS does:
- Helps access legally available information from fertility clinics or the state.
- Offers support and counselling around information and contact preferences.
- Can assist with sensitive contact with genetic relatives.

Queensland
Queensland Donor Conception Information Register (open)
Accessing the DCIR
From 16/09/26, applicants can apply for information held in the Register.
Initially, all applicants can submit a paper application, while donor-conceived people can also apply online through the Applicant Portal using a myID account. Applicant Portal access for other applicant groups will be introduced over time.

(Queensland’s donor conception information register is being developed under the Assisted Reproductive Technology Act 2024 and not fully operational yet; these contacts will keep you updated and help with notifications.)

Tasmania & Northern Territory
At present, Tasmania and the Northern Territory do not have formal statutory donor-conception registers maintained by the state/territory government.
Access to donor information in these jurisdictions is typically through clinic records or private fertility clinic processes rather than an official register.
Counselling and Mental Health
Private & Referral Options
Even where formal government support isn’t available (e.g., Queensland, Tasmania, NT), donor-conceived people can access:
- Clinical counselling through ANZICA (Australian and New Zealand Infertility Counsellors Association) — specialised in fertility and donor issues.
- General psychologists/therapists experienced with identity, family and donor-related issues.
- Better Access / Medicare-rebated mental health support with a GP referral (up to 10 sessions) — helpful for anxiety, identity issues, trauma, and adjustment.
